THOUSANDS GATHER TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC AND LATINO HERITAGE IN WASHINGTON, DC
Written by The American Latino Team
Despite overcast weather this past Sunday, more than 60,000 people attended this annual celebration highlighting Latino culture with a Parade of Latin American Nations, live entertainment, arts and crafts, international cuisine and more. This free festival took over the Columbia Heights neighborhood bringing together community leaders, non-profit organizations and members of the corporate and private sector.
The Fiesta DC festival kicked off around 11:00 am. until 7:00 pm. It included live entertainment and hundreds of dance performances, a Children Fair, food stands, and booths of sponsors and other private businesses along the street. One of the best features of Fiesta DC is its Parade of Latin American Nations which started at 1:00 pm. The parade is a delightful display of more than 1,000 dancers representing the heterogeneous cultural and racial nature of Latin America. Another awesome feature of Fiesta DC is the huge selection of international cuisine.
It was quite apparent that Fiesta DC has overgrown its location. We are hoping that it would be allowed to expand in years to come.
